We met for the first time on a Thursday night drowned in sultry hot musky starlight
Beneath the caverns of old winter-shore back in the lands of the mermaids and dinosaurs
So you’ll have to forgive me if I did not believe it, this lusty fable of barmaids and scoundrels
Everyone looking for the next happy ending and me just killing time so desperately wounded
As you offered a smile while you hid in the shadows, letting those others so stiffly outshine you
And I took up the mantle and offered a chalice knowing full well you’d reject my proposal
But you took a chance and I gave you a laugh and in the end we parted as friends
Until you knocked on my door and I let you in and that, my dear, brought the whirlwind
Far too swift, we swept up in, as the tornado ignited the fire and hurricane then lapped the flames
And into the dark with but a hope and a sword like two plunder hungry conquistadors
We battled the elves and the vampires and near lost our heads when the ogres took over
Sang with the nymphs, broke bread with the dwarves, shared secret smiles as we talked of our scars
So in the end but a mere fairy tale as the rainbow wanes and the leprechaun reveals very little
For I knew all along one day you would leave and I’d know then it was all just a dream
