It’s Only Insta

LexiLou

It’s Only Insta

Hide a small of your life

We don’t want to see

Every twist your life takes, and every meal  you eat

Enslaved for views, jester for masses of fools

Making mockery of the pained and abusively used

Blackening your heart, now that’s one hell of a due

For hearts and likes you fiend, to spread like a cancer

Relay this to them

They feel the pounce of the panther

Piercing your soul with their eyes,

They generically reply

Sigh

Chill, it’s only just Insta

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this poem because I don’t like what social media has become. I’m not opposed to social media, but I am opposed to the recordings of misfortune, pain, and danger of others all for the purpose of going viral and getting likes. If you see a baby in the street or a body , “Let me find my phone to record” shouldn’t be what pops into your brain first

While I'm not a social media user, I truly get you're saying. Too often compassion and empathy are eclipsed by indifference. What happened to our humanity? Good write!
