Prison Cell

Mhea

My mind is like a prison cell

I have been sentenced to life

Stuck within these four walls

Pacing around the cell block

Intrusive thoughts circle like guards

Dictating my schedule

Controlling what I eat

Counting my calories

Society is the judge

Issuing opinions and verdict

Imprisoning others for being themselves

Imprisoned me in here

Overthinking is my bailiff

Punishing me for being me

Punishing me by taking away my sleep

Incarcerating me subconsciously

  • Comment from author about the poem: I have been doing a lot of introspection this week as I soon will be graduating from college, and wrote this poem. It is a little dark and deep, but I hope you enjoy it. As always any feedback is appreciated (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ ✧゚・: *ヽ(◕ヮ◕ヽ)
