The Encounter

Jerry Reynolds

A young boy with a stick
A watchdog torn
Between bark and lick
If I turn over on my back
Feet spread apart -- a bit
Would he tickle my belly
And toss that stick?

Shame the dawg knows a stick can be a weapon.

I like the way this piece gets inside the thinking of a watchdog. The dog's thinking is different from its training, instead thinks about what it wants. A very nice piece.
