Having a stroke is like getting hit by lightning, you don't think about it, think it won't happen to you, it just strikes at random.
Surviving a stroke is like being reborn, you have to learn to talk, how to move your hands and how to walk, an infant but with the memories of a life prior.
Overcoming a stroke is showing who is in control, you can set your goals and you can make them happen. One day at a time, lots of rest, a good support system and positive attitude.
Living after a stroke is like getting a second chance to see the world and all its beauty for the first time. You will be shaky and lose your balance, but you will never give up. You will love harder, laugh louder and be grateful for every day that you are alive to enjoy what matters.
What a beautiful world it would be if everyone could live life as if each day matters, as if every breath is truly life and if kindness and compassion were unconditional. Only in that world could we truly understand balance.

- Comment from author about the poem: I am a stroke survivor and this poem is how I feel about survival. My wish is for others to die kindness and compassion to all because you never know what someone is going through in life. Just be kind.
