conclusion forgone

verona

the house has been smoking for a while, it is only a matter of time before it will all burn down.

we couldn't thrive in a house on fire, we felt like caged animals, bound by borders and papers and red ink.

I will not say that I am sad for that will make me sadder. I will not say that I will miss you -

I can take these words and put them in an envelope to never send. In the paper I'd wrap all my half-spent wishes, our pleasant memories and the sheer time we spent, lying still as though the world had already ended.

I'll remember all we want is never realized in full and all love is dashed through with hope. do my words seem too heavy to you? I'll write them on the lightest paper, they will burn quickly.

I only occaionally like prose poems but I like this one. It works well. And is very expressive.
