I Really Am Fine

Thomasine Dye

I really am fine

Don’t pay me any mind

Why would I care

About yesterday’s nightmares?

Look, I’m making jokes

I have no problem staying afloat

See? I am well and good

I act just as I should

I’m cool, collected, calm

Not a tear to shed, aren’t I strong?

My stars are all so far away

But I pay them no mind, it’s okay

It doesn’t matter, I never mattered

The glass, empty or full, is doomed to shatter

I don’t care anymore, I just don’t care

Do not look into my eyes, ignore their wails

    yes, so many deserving
    silenced
    by the cacophonous
    noise
    of the self-serving..
