How Can I Help It

Charles Edward York

How can I help it

when your eyes

take me by the heart

and turn me all the way around?

I’m either a very lucky man

or Heaven decided

to make me a millionaire

when you came into my life.

How can I help it

when the words you say

Spin in my brain

And point my thoughts to you?

I’m either very distracted

or the word beauty

has redefined the world

when you open up my eyes.

How can I help it

when the embers of this fire

reignite all the stars

and rename themselves as you?

My feelings have feet

now that can’t stop dancing

and you are the music

who keeps on playing!

A beautiful verse and a beautiful poem

Thank you so much for the compliment. I never knew what kind of impact this poem had until I read the first lines of the last stanza that you quoted.
