Leave Me in Quiet Places

Thomasine Dye

Leave me in quiet places

Silence is a cold and maddening thing

Leave me in freezing places

No one would ever come for me, he said

Leave me in hopeless places

Hell is the death of hope

Leave me in hellish places

The Hell I always knew I deserved

Leave me in destined places

I am destined to be empty

Leave me in empty places

All is empty, all is meaningless

Leave me in meaningless places

  • Comment from author about the poem: "Mother used to say that however miserable one is, there’s always something to be thankful for. And each morning, when the sky brightened and light began to flood my cell, I agreed with her."
