the humanity in nature

H. Jordan

There’s a certain sadness to the stars

Such an overlooked, unmatchable beauty

Hidden under street lights

And knowing that there were millions of stars in the sky

That has been overtaken by the glare of human progress

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem represents the fact that stars have been disappearing from the sky due to light pollution. Whenever I go up to remote areas where there are no streetlights or cars or roads really, I can see the entirety of the sky and its beauty but whoever I'm in a city, I can see maybe 20 stars in the sky. It saddens me that a lot of people will not be able to experience the night sky in its full beauty.
