Rebuttal after rebuttal,
What comes after the sum total?
New knowledge? Yes, if but disposed.
Higher wisdom, the truth exposed,
But these rebuttals without end,
One’s will fixed so as not to bend,
Becomes something less than sincere,
A twisting (of minutia here)
Contrarian’s unquenchable
Aversion to the Lord’s table.
Delicacies of sophistries,
Dishes of look-at-me-selfies,
Crowd away culminating truths
And claims falling beyond “the bounds.”
Entitlements to contraction,
The scientific reduction,
Let’s limit them to one apiece,
Then move on like the wise in Greece,
Making it our very mission,
The instruments of transmission.

- Comment from author about the poem: Inspired by Mr. Trent Horn’s debate etiquette of not offering a rebuttal to a rebuttal, as announced while debating and countering Alex J O’Connor a.k.a. the Cosmic Skeptic in July and October of 2020, respectively.

Rebuttal after rebuttal - a bit like fighting cat and dog? Not that I've seen many cats fighting with dogs!
Yes, we skeptics have a propensity for extending matters much further than “mystery” permits. This realization was the key for easing my own scepticism.
Late response, Gary – I almost missed you.
But glad I didn’t overlook your neat little piece, which beyond its structure and flow contains some sound advice.
I feel (and please contradict me if this is not your perception) that while you and I have had some respectful differences of opinion in the past. neither of us have wished to let them drag on interminably.
And as usual, I must thank you for your references – in this instance Alex J O’Connor, whom I shall investigate further as he has easy access. However, in the case of Mr. Trent Horn, apparently engagement here requires a monetary subscription………...
Hey Dog, always good to hear from you. Yes, I prefer to stay within the much looser boundaries of poetry with its greater license for creativity. The apologist has to be far more disciplined and time committed to exhaust the argument - I respect their dedication and will point as many people as I can to these debates - they go by quickly when watching but would be very difficult to demonstrate/duplicate within the confines of these comment boxes.
