Chilly Haze

Charles Edward York

As your star turns absolute zero
A strange chilly haze
Descends on my eyes so heavy
The Sun I love to see
All your bright glint
Flickers and fades too soon.

Shadows lay over sacred ground
Lies hang broken lanterns
Whose pieces fall as
Ashes of shattered reality
Black snow blankets
All my emotional treasures.

I shiver in constant cold now
Your once warm abundance
May as well be icy roads
Glazed frozen reminders
From bridges between us
Buried beneath deafening walls.

Dare I cross such a glacier?
Surfaces cutting so sharp
My approach seems doomed
Tossing tears your way
I fling no forlorn hope
Only a heart still warm for you.
