SWINGING WILD AGAINST THE MOON

Matthew Kx

1.

When the years settled
I held myself responsible
for everything and nothing
I climbed a wicked mountain
With no thoughts of god
I counted my stumbling footfalls
Then retraced my steps with
Involuntary sureness.

2.

When we meet at the crossroads
Will love reveal our glory
To swing wild
Against the moon
Or, like the softest flesh that turns to stone
Will it be like we never touched
Instead left to cry in a cascade of light
That shadows slowly erase.

-3-

When I try to understand
I am stricken, blinded
Not by relentless life but
By the anger of imperfection
Leaning over me
Saying give it
one
more
chance.
