Blood

hapadalecki

I once heard in a tv show that “family don’t end in blood.”

When I heard it, I loved it. My family isn’t just made up of blood. It’s made up of people who joined and became blood.

That’s what you were for a long time.

Blood.

You were family.

Then he died.

Everything changed.

You were no longer blood.

Instead, you drew blood.

You made sad tears instead of happy ones.

You destroyed a family who once loved you.

Who once adored you.

Who once let you in, without hesitation.

Then you chose yourself over us. Over your own blood.

So, now, you’re no longer blood.

You’re now the dried up crust of what this family used to be.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is about an old family member who destroyed our family by choosing someone else. Herself. She has destroyed me, and my parents. To anyone else who’s gone through this, I’m so sorry.
