Eighteen Cats

KRWonder

They say you should start with two
and that’s exactly what I did
but two became four
and four turned into six.
And now I have eighteen cats
in eighteen different colors.
Oh, I’ve got all the classics:
white, black, grey, and chocolate.
I’ve even got a spotted,
a tortoiseshell and a lilac.
A blue, a smoke, a red,
here comes my calico!
A silver and a mackerel,
a harlequin and a tuxedo.
And there’s my little cinnamon,
napping with the fawn,
and there goes the chinchilla,
always on the run.
I love my eighteen cats,
I truly love them all.
I only wish I knew
where they keep coming from.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Inspired by Shel Silverstein’s “Eighteen Flavors.” I love cats, but could never have that many. Lol.

We had 34 guinea pigs at one time! heehee. Not very wise of us though. We separated them out, and sold some of them.
Terrible to feed 18 cats, and to clear up their litter trays! lol.
