My oldest daughter Shirley Marie, a very good girl and a sweet as can be.
She helps with the housework and washes the dishes, and I know if I could I'd grant all her wishes.
Well maybe someday when she grows up like her mom, she'll understand it's a very big job, to raise a big family that can't be done alone without a sweetheart like her in our home sweet home.

- Comment from author about the poem: My Dad actually wrote this poem to me in 1962 in my autograph book. I was 12 at that time. A year later my book burned in a fire but I memorized it. I'm the oldest of 14.
