The Last Romance

The Last Romance

Have you found somebody new?

Shall I discard these memories of you?

How we played those games of chess

and my surrender led to your success?

How you teased the game of love

and I failed?

How we sang and danced to old time music

and felt our hearts were flying?

How you crooned one of your well-known sad songs

and my poor heart was crying?.

When hand-in-hand we wandered by the sea

and divulged our lifelong dreams?

Then, you, without warning, walked out on me

and now they’re nightmares, it seems?.

Long ago when you were inside my mind

I treasured each moment of you.

Now, my lonely evenings fall mournfully

for I know I am without you.

Will my memories redeem or rehash

when all that’s left are cold embers and ash?

  • Fay Slimm.

Oh what a sigh of a read Phil - you penned the very hurts that come when a partner walks out and leaves such sadness and sorrow - - full marks for the lump that will remain in many a heart (including mine too ) after reading this lament on The Last Romance.

Very emotive words Phil, I hope all is OK now.
