Why Would A Mother Hate?

Jasmine Swift

I remember from the time I was born. I was afraid you'd let me die like dried up corn.

I did everything for you because of your health. Even though I loved you, you kicked me as I fell.

Thanks to you, I cover my scars. As your daughter, I know this shouldn't be who you are.

When you see me cry, you hear my broken heart pray. What a mother could change, and a father could stay.

Seeing my world, I see no good fate. So before you let me die, why would a mother hate?

And my father, he never came around. Every night when he left, I prepared for people to put my body in the ground.

Crying in the dark, I wanted to die. If you wouldn't, I'd be the one to end my life.

Thanks to you both, I hate myself. I put my makeup on, and my heart on the shelf.

When you see me cry, you hear my broken heart pray. That a mother could change, and a father could stay.

Seeing my world, I see no good fate. So, before you leave me to die, why would a father hate?

      unwavering passion, imbued
in this powerful write! it a credit
      to the Fight, in You
      and that wondrousness of life
where, out of so much strife
      and hurt
can bud, a soul so - so
      beautifully, adamant and fierce
a volition, so untameable & loud
      it curates, Hope
out of ashes and broken promises!
