We Survived McKinney EVAC
It was Saturday eve about half past eight
When a cop knocked hard and spoke in haste
“There’s a fire burning down on the interstate
Your family must flee your home and evacuate”
We were in panic mode with no time to waste
The fire was headed right towards our place
We packed up everything, trying not to be late
We weren’t gonna let this fire seal our fate
My father is an elderly man who is truly great
We called to ask him for permission to wait
With him in his tiny cluttered one-bedroom place
He said yes without putting up a debate
He took in the five of us without any delay
Including our electronics, and all that we saved
He put himself last during this horrible blaze
With a smile on his face and not one little complaint
The mountain cascades always made us feel safe
Majestic warriors standing guard all of our days
Protecting our valley, we were never afraid
No fires would ever touch us and set us ablaze
Until one day the wildfires weren’t too far away
Only 4 or 5 miles west of us just through the haze
That’s when my hero, my dad, stepped up to the plate
On that Saturday evening about half past eight
