Overdrawn

Jabberwocky

We dance our little dance then

The kids all unaware

The imperative our eyes

Avoid the others stare

You spin and walk away

The kids still greeting me

He’s shuffling in the shadows

Where I deign not to see

Soon enough you join him

I glance. You walk away,

And everything inside me

Would call and have you stay

Except I understand

The debt betrayal runs

And in my hearts kept ledger

my mouth is out of funds.
