Not a Poem

Jenny Brav

This is

not a poem
(nor a pipe).

Poetic prose?

Negative space in my heart,
crashing against what it is

not.

Too literal…
Telling, not showing.
Let the image carry the message.

What if I don’t know how?

My chest is a hollowed hull
of nothing-ness.

Who will tell my poem,
that it is

not?

Naught.

Knots in my mind

that don’t know how to unwind
these flimsy

words

in ways that will catch your whimsy
or connect to the negative space

in your heart.

I liked your theme and wit
      a wonderful read, thank you
      ('show, not tell'
      is that illusive, tag-line
      of modern, artistry
      but something, need not be
      draped in abstracted imagery
      for it to be poetic
      rather, more importantly
      all those ambitious
      assembly line degree, 'poet's'
      would do wonders for their
      poetic 'talent'
if they could add a little sincerity
      to their, tried and tasted
      trending topic, victimology recipe;
      rather, sincerity
      that is accessibly genuine
      and authentically relatable
      not manufactured for effect
      yeah
      we can tell the difference...)
