Light and Dark

Donna Rena

Swept away in the mounting flood

Emotional tides that rise and fall

Tears of joy and cries of pain

The tattered soul endures it all

Searching for light in the darkened sky

A flicker of hope begins to burn

Take hold and grasp that little spark

Knowing soon the page will turn

Day rolls into night again

As night turns back into the day

The light and dark go hand in hand

Each has its part in life to play

If all were bright and sunny days

The stars would never show their face

Those lessons learned in darker times

Teach faith and reassuring grace

Night cannot steal the daylight’s glow

Its place secure, the sun will rise

To show which way the journey goes

And wash away the nighttime skies

Embrace them both the light and dark

Accept the gifts both sides can give

When done with honest, open heart

Then one can learn to truly live
