Heavy Eyelids

rowanatwood

cover sleepy eyes like butterflies perched on the brow that

flutter their wings to the tap tap tapping of a heartbeat

slow but sudden, the silky sound of the flap flap flapping

like a laced lullaby, haply harmony…

but sudden sorrow

for a butterfly with broken wings becomes the thing it lives to avoid

the chaotic character

awakened anchor

no longer light nor full of life but crash, crash, crashing

on a rotten road with headlights beaming

walk across and empty goosebumps form

afraid, but the fear is numb

heavy eyelids

yearn to rest and close once more

while heavy wings sing a sad song

a slow song

a sleepy song

leave the crashing

the flapping

the tapping

and be pulled down…

finally.
