first day

Adela

she wanders the halls

lost again

tries to remain calm

as other people rush by

determined to get to where they're going

she tries to stop someone

ask for help

but they ignore her

she tries not to cry

but she's stressed

breaking

until the bell rings

and she's still lost

she runs to hide

in her secret spot

in the corner

where no one can find her

even if they cared to.

It's not the first time she's been trapped

lost in her own mind

but this time it's worse.

  • Comment from author about the poem: After my first day of high school I found this poem aching to come up. Unlike what (I bet) most of you thought, it's not actually about high school. It's about how I feel on bad days when I can't get out of my own mind.
