Love Yourself

Robert Isaacs Chiwala

Learn to love yourself first

Then you shall know love

And truly love another

Love and hate does not go together

Don't mistake they go on separate ways

Mean same path but opposite always

Only hurt goes together with hate

Though sometimes love can hurt

Breaking the tender heartstrings

Know the feeling of hurt

Learn to appreciate love

Love should not hurt

If you are not afraid to hurt yourself

Tell me how you will hate to hurt another

You have to learn to love yourself first

'If you are not afraid to hurt yourself
Tell me how you will hate to hurt another'..
there is so much wisdom in these lines!
    a great write, dear Poet
    and it is all, so
    infuriatingly simple
we scurry around, in our life
    fighting for nothingness
    dreaming of dreams
    and we chase, despairingly
    for what we'll soon forget;
    and we ignore, that
    which stays with us
    every step of our lives
    ourselves!
and most of the hate, we
    aim at others
    is born from our internalised
    frustrations
    we regress by repressing
being too scared to confront our weaknesses and pain,
    so-as to mend and heal
    ourselves...
