Sweet Tastes

Nicole.j

We used to eat the candy our dads brought home from work

with the sweet taste rolling on our tongues to the back of our throats

We’d finish it and look up as if there were more waiting for us then look down knowing that the sweetness that was once cruising through our tastebuds, was gone

Today we eat our future that we have to build for ourselves

The bitterness of having to be independent is tasted as adulthood draws nearer

We’ll bring the bitter taste to an end as we complete the essential path through life we call college

and know that the sweet taste we once felt tingling on the tip of our tongue

will return as our careers that we tried so hard for, commence
