Short break

parker

Sitting with a glass of white
Watching swifts outclass all human aerobatics
Sweaty from the work
Tractor ticking and sighing as it cools
Puff ball cartoon clouds
Drifting slowly south eastward
There's a deer in a far field
The dog is nudging my arm for a stroke
No windows, no office, no orders
But it's still back to work
There are fields to fertilise
Livestock to check and chat with
Machinery to maintain
Set up for tomorrow
But this is my land.
These are my fields
This is my responsibility
It's the season of harvest
I watch and admire
Think quietly of you
And wonder joyfully at my feelings
The glass is empty
A moment of silent appreciation
Climb into the cab
Start the diesel, and work.
