Somebody's Basement

mfhanyx_

I come running to you

Not like a moth into a flame

But as someone who has found a place

To deposit all their blames

Seeing you put on a brave face

I let the shadows overcome me

Let my features become a twin to menace.

You smile to soften the blow on your heart

Believe it or not, I'm guilty AF

I know, you see, I know that and yet

Never sorted out this habit, never left

And when the blood starts dripping

When your smile starts dipping

When the world keeps tipping

And your heart keeps ripping

Realizing your condition,

I bawl my eyes out

Kneeling as you comfort me

You never leave me in doubt

I love you and need you

So it's a good thing I own you

As I punch you like routine.

  • Comment from author about the poem: With this poem, I wanted to show a domestic abuser as a human with feelings too, but as I wrote the last line I realized that I still hated the abuser, no matter what his circumstances for it may be, when I showed his personality as completely corrupt in the last two lines.

Tough poem, and many will resonate with it. It also brings into light, how love will make many stay in the relationship.

Yeah. But I kind of hope no one resonates with it, cause if they do, it means they know this pain, and I don't want that.
