Phoenix of Hope

M. Evermore

I heard a quote about Hope

And thought it untrue

For how can Hope fly

When for me, it dies

I admit I puzzled over it,

That is true

But I have come to a conclusion

That perhaps it does fly

It can fly away if something scares it

Human nature declares that to survive,

We must be scared

Of things like violence, of things like war

And in that utter silence,

Surrounded by the storm,

It is human nature that decides

Whether Hope must stay or fly

And if it stays, may it glow bright

And if it flies, let it fly high

To survive until tomorrow

To burn in hearts far away

So that one day it may return

To set the very heavens on fire

So fly, Phoenix of Hope

Creature of rebirth and fire

Burn on until the light of day

And return when darkness reigns

So if Hope must be a bird,

I declare it must be Phoenix

So that Hope may burn bright

And set the world on fire
