My Darkest Friend

MaybeOneDay

Hello again, my fondest friend

You’ll be with me until the end.

When I’m alone, you’re always there

The only one who’ll ever care.

You’ll share a silent drink with me

And see the darkness that I see.

We’ll dream together of love not found

And shriek in pain, without a sound.

Silent nights and empty days

Two misdirected, wandering strays

Enshrouded by this vile heat haze

We’ll serve each other with eyes ablaze

And when I reach for you I’ll find

You’re present there, within my mind

But you’re always sad, and I can’t see,

Why it is you stay with me.

I’ve thought to leave you, I must confess

But I can’t escape your cold caress.

I guess we’ll muddle through this mess

My only friend…my loneliness.

I liked this one. SImple but transmits the feeling of loneliness everyone feels in a way that makes us realize it is important to feel lonely sometimes.

You have expressed quite eloquently the despair of loneliness, a melancholy that does touch all of us at times. Well written!
