The Girl Named Rain

Gojae

I

She is like the rain
Magnificent in nature
Truly a beauty
Oh, but why am I weeping
Every time I feel her close

II

Then one fateful day
When the skies
Water slowly fell
And as it ran down my cheeks
The coldness is crystal clear

III

"Pretty is it not?"
I looked back and saw somebody
"Yeah, a real beauty"
I nodded unwillingly
After all, only I knew

IV

"I want to go home"
Thoughts echoed inside my head
I hesitated,
I seem to have forgotten
My bright and red umbrella

V

I prepared myself
But I mustered the courage
To go against it
And now I'm wet, shivering
Like a candle burning out

VI

While I'm in the rain
I felt like I am dying
My heart is lonely
Quite ironic don't you think?
Because she's right there with me

VII

I ran very fast
Drenched and shaking from this rain
But I can't outrun
The feeling of emptiness
That is swallowing me now

VIII

That's when I saw her
Basking under the rain, soaked
"She looked so happy"
I glanced at her, our eyes met
Then she began approaching

IX

She took my hand and
Spun herself with those arms
"Care to dance with me?"
We swayed our arms with the wind
A grand spectacle indeed

X

The melody halts
Our fingers still interlocked
"Will we meet again?"
I'm clearly not letting go
She wrapped my arms around her

XI

"I will never go
Even if rain comes or not
I'll always be here"
Those words are more than enough
For me to believe once more

XII

Every now and then
I still see this girl named rain
And rains are still cold
I dont fear them anymore
Because you are now with me

  • Comment from author about the poem: Rainy days are always sad and gloomy. The sky turns dark and tears fall from the sky. This is the same kind of feeling you get when admiring a certain someone. The cold, wet, and unpleasant feeling of being soaked. But then again, we all learn how to accept things for how they are. And all we need is to dance in the rain.
