Poem to a really good mother !

Justa_Geezer

Alas, no comment on my mother,
Because she just never was you see,
She would run round for any other,
Sorry but she never did for me.

So, wasting no more time on her then,
I will tell you about another,
She was the mother of my children,
A fabulously well loved mother.

When we wed she was eighteen years old.
Three months later she was a mother,
But as youngsters we would not be told,
Two years later we had another.

Mothering on for those first few years,
Was extremely tough for her to cope,
I was so busy changing careers,
Our lives were busy but full of hope.

Then we moved out of our ground floor flat,
Into a brand new three bedroom house,
We moved many more times after that,
Together two boys, me and my spouse.

Finally back near our families,
After many years of wandering,
Now thanks to both our abilities,
A new business we were pondering.

Our future seemed just as right as rain,
We'd worked out the practicalities,
Then we find out were pregnant again,
Made it all change dramatically.

Over that shock, like ducks to water,
Our busness prospered, we both worked hard
My wife bore us a lovely daughter,
Later fate dealt us a lousey card.

When recession bit, it hit us hard,
Being deep in hospitality,
Bills kept arriving and did bombard,
Us deeper in debt financially.

We lost our business, then sold the house,
Paid off our debts, and then raised a toast,
A new way of life we did espouse,
Bought somewhere cheaper on Norfolk coast.

We settled in, fostered teenage boys,
I took any work to pay our dues,
My wife supported with grace and poise,
All of our kids, fostering reviews.

She played a blinder for all those years,
Giving them her heart, so willingly
Skipping forward to her time of fears,
When the Doc told her so chillingly.

It's lung cancer, cannot operate,
Radiotherapy and chemo,
Sorry to say but its far too late,
Thats as far as  we can go you know.

Having tried them both, and done their best,
They said she had six months to two years,
Finalise her final months and rest,
That did nothing to allay her fears.

She set out some target dates to bust,
Her boys Birthdays, Christmas and New Year,
The millenium, simply a must,
Her Birthday on Valentines you hear.

She made our daughters fifteenth birthday,
Her next target date would have been mine,
But that damn disease took her away,
She suddenly just ran out of time.

Reaching so many targets but on
Sunday had friends / relations all day,
lived life fully before she was gone,
Early Monday morn she passed away,

As an epitaph to this mother,
To commit within my poetry,
A Grandmother and Fostermother
You meant the whole world and more to me !
