After dealing with some health issues for the last few months, I have decided to take a leave of absence until the dust settles and the clouds go away. I feel badly that I have been absent so much, for I miss my friends. I hope to be back before too long. I also hope that all of you will all be safe and well.
100 years
1,200 months
5,200 weeks
36,500 days
876,000 hours
52,560,000 minutes
3,153,600,000 seconds
3,784,320,000 heartbeats
894,000,000 blinks
736,000,000 breaths
The definition of antique
Is something that is at least 100 years old
So many collectibles fit into that category
But what about a human being?
We refer to them as a centenarian
And they are more valuable
Than all the antiques in the world
While an antique may be on display
With a brief history of its origin and use
The centenarian is the living history
Of 100 years of progress, innovation and societal change
What makes 100 years of life so special?
You’d have to ask the centenarian
Because he or she has lived it
And what is their secret?
Well, I believe they are engaged, curious, kind, loving,
Generous, forgiving, accepting of life’s ups and downs
They don’t take for granted, but give their all
They have taken responsibility for life
And made it meaningful and worthwhile
I speak for one Centenarian
Who I am privileged to know and love
On September 3rd of this year my father-in-law
Celebrated his 100th birthday with great pomp and circumstance
And a whole lot of fun
“Happy Birthday Ed”
We’re looking forward to 101

- Comment from author about the poem: My husband was adopted at birth. In 2010, through remarkable circumstances, he was able to connect with his birth father who was 88 at the time. The relationship that has blossomed between our two families since then has been nothing short of miraculous.

Inspiring! A wonderful write and tribute. My grandfather was a jokester
He waited for us all to plan his 100th birthday then died just months before. I still picture him laughing from above.
Thank you dear friend for your lovely comment. I hope Grandpa and Ed meet up, up there, they'd have a lot in common.
Absolutely marvellous, heart-warming and so many other positive expletives that I am near lost for words .. and no kidding .. How bloomin amazing is that .. and I aint just referring to Ed's story, but to the math that made up your introduction to it ... Congratulations & best wishes to Ed and the rest of you ...... (Wise sentiments
as in appreciating our elders
we appreciate our past
and those who can't grasp a foothold on their past
will ever wonder aimlessly in life...) Hope you all had a great day! Such a lovely read, thank you dear Poet
