Ewe wangu Karani
nakusalimu, zipoke zangu habari
makinika kwa yanayonisibu
usiku kucha nakesha, na wewe ndiwe sababu.
naadhibika mwenzako
zinaniruka akili
fikra zawa za kilumbwi
ngowa lanitanda
nisibaini sababu.
mawazo yamenikunda,
nipo taabani mahamumu,
navurugika akili,
maisha yanawa thakili,
usiajizike...
subiri nikuarifu.
shabaha nalolilenga ni hizi zetu hulka,
linaloniadhibu ni maneno yako,
hunizuzua na kunipumbaza,
na huku kuntatiza,
nayakwepa mafikra zako
wala badali sioni.
nasaha zangu hazinifai hata chembe,
nateketeya.
sadiki yangu kauli,
pendo halimsaili mtu linapomshika,
na kwangu yamenitanda,
macho hayana pazia,
na wala mwenye macho haambiwi tazama,
ni dhahiri
takidiri, takidiri limetukutanisha.
nakuenzi mithili ya mihanuni na zabibu,
nisilijue dosari nalizamia kichwa kwanza
nakurai ikiwa yamejibaini
tusilitumbue
tuchunge kisije chujuka

Dear Karani,
I salute you, hear my news,
heed to what ails me,
I no longer sleep and you’re the reason.
I'm suffering,
going nuts,
thoughts like the chameleon
Longing covers me
the reason I comprehend not.
Thoughts have enveloped me,
I'm worried and anxious,
I'm loosing my mind,
life is getting hard,
don’t tire…
patience I tell you
The target I aim is our relations,
what punishes me are your words,
they excite and comfort me,
and disturb me.
I avoid thinking about you
I see no change.
advice is useless, not worth a grain
I'm burning.
My words are true
Love doesn't ask, when it seizes a person
it has covered me all over.
Eyes can never be screened to the truth
Its clear as day
Fate, fate has brought us together.
I cherish you,
you're as precious as hennaed hands and grapes.
Let me not know any blemish, I dive in head first.
I plead if its apparent
Lets not ruin it
Let it not fade

- Comment from author about the poem: 'Karani' it's more of a title than a name. It alludes to the unique situation in which I met a certain someone. I chose to write this piece in our own language 'Swahili' which holds more significance to the message. For those who don't understand the language I've translated the piece not sure its still moving as the original but hope you enjoy.
