Hope

Gary Edward Geraci

Hope is the black cast boot

waiting across the bed

for the boy in the bed

whose brain has stopped working.

In boisterous play (for hundreds have prayed)

now kicking up dust while

compressing the leg whose

bones and brain are quite quickly healing.

Hope is the black cast boot

waiting across the bed, pointing to Heaven,

where the boy in the bed whose brain had stopped working

has gone now for everlasting play.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A young friend of mine, not quite two years old, suffered critical injuries a few days ago during a car accident, a traumatic brain injury, a broken leg, and a fractured leg. Across his ICU bed, with all its tubes, wires, and blinking screens, the nurse had placed a single, black boot cast for the treatment of the least of his injuries … Things don’t look good for my young friend as the doctors are still dealing with swelling of his brain. Your prayers for a miracle are appreciated. Update, September 16, 2022: R.I.P. Angel Lewis Espinoza, September 17, 2020 - September 12, 2022. We love you!

I will pray for a miracle. Very poignant.

    Prayers can do miracles,
    It can overcome obstacles,
    It can eliminate debacles,
    As, for us, God tackles,
    God's heart, prayer tickles!

      Thinking of you all there.
We have a grieving here in the UK of our dear departed Queen.

      • Gary Edward Geraci

Thank you Orchidee and I join you in this grief and I fly the United States flag in front of my home with a black ribbon (the equivalent to flying it at half staff) in honor of your Queen. My condolences to you and your countrymen and women for your loss. Gary
