Darkness

         Darkness

I lay in bed, wide awake, my mind racing.

In complete and utter darkness, I can only

see the darkness of the all too often

creepy shadows that accompany the night.

I hear a faucet dripping somewhere off in

the distance of the immenseness that is this house.

It bangs throughout my head like Big Ben

is in my bedroom sounding off the latest hour.

I feel it in my chest thumping with a rumble like

the sound of rolling thunder passing through the night.

I hear a whisper that sounds like it’s right in my ear,

yet somehow rather faded, and off in the distance.

  What’s she saying…It’s monotonous but

somehow soothing at the same time.

She is praying…praying for what, or who?

Praying for the light to hopefully

chase away the shadows of darkness.

Praying for love to chase away the

loneliness in her heart.

Bring back the forever love

she once knew to be real,

back to the deepest part of her soul.
