A Tale About the Universe

W.J.

“The universe just is”, they say.

“The universe is full of ghosts”, is what they whisper right after.

And yet, we are. We exist

among ghosts glistening like stars

covered in moon dust,

their light penetrating our shadowy souls.

We shine dimly, our hearts

a rainbow of light —

everything all at once.

“We are, we are, we are”,

they’re afraid to say while drowning

in ghostly grey of everything.

And I would be one of them,

one of the voices so loud

they pierce through galaxies infinities away.

But I’m not. I shine iridescently,

my heart a rainbow of your eyes.

“I am, I am, I am”,

I sing to you in lullabies,

you answer in good mornings.
