Marriage

nicolajustme

When did it get so matter of fact,

Disagreeing about this,

Arguing about that.

Meetings, dinners,

Formal engagements.

Texting over calling,

Discussing problems,

Making arrangements.

Somewhere along the way,

When life got tough,

It became about others,

And less about us.

Frustration,

Silence,

Confusion and hurt.

As the narratives in our heads,

Dished all sorts of dirt.

Distance,

Conflicting time zones,

Worlds apart.

Seeking constant reassurance,

As we mastered the art.

Fewer goodnight wishes,

As the pillow met our heads,

Questioning each other's actions,

So much left unsaid.

Who knows what awaits us,

What will be, what’s in store,

I just hope in this next chapter,

I get to love you once more.
