Lingers

Tayama

Linger

What lingers? You…

Why can’t I change the sheets?

Why is the window still closed?

Why are your shirts on the chest?

Your purple hat fading by the sun?

Your towels in a pile?

Book open to that page?

The fountain pen now dried?

A flower with no flowers?

My jeans are so loose…

I can’t taste anything…

My phone is silent…

Why does love seem so tainted now?

Why do I not matter anymore?

Nothing seems to…except you…

But you left…

Yet what is the only thing that does matter…and still lingers…yet fades with every passing day…as I also do…for your not here…

You.
