the castle

mary.soft

I`m a castle made of glass

I can`t lie to them

There`s no guard, everyone is welcome

So it goes

I have to build myself over again

No, they don`t lie

What doesn`t kill you makes you stronger

But they forgot how the daggers in the back make you hurt

And how the regret and the promise to never trust anyone again poison your blood

I`m a castle made of sand

But everyone keeps knocking on my doors

Like I`m the one on the throne

So it goes

I have to build myself over and over again

No, they don`t lie

What doesn`t kill you makes you stronger

But they forgot some of us can`t stand the pressure

Of breaking down and building ourselves up every night

I`m a castle made of ice

Keeping candlelight inside

For everyone to find their way home

So it goes

I have to build myself over and over, again and again

No, they don`t lie

What doesn`t kill you makes you stronger

But they forgot about how tired you get each time

And is there any hope left inside of you

But maybe someday…

I`ll be a castle made of stone

But will someone want to go through all the guard

To find there`s only mine exhausted of the beating heart?

My dear friend this is just priceless. I love the metaphors of glass, sand, ice and stone that you have used to express such deep feeling and reflection. Building yourself over and over again swells to a great climax in that final verse. It's a little late, but this is a fav.
