Wasting time around the Red Velvet Rope

ccpegus

He stands patiently waiting in line
Hopeful that eventually, it'll be his time
To connect and groove with her in a unique rhyme
But not today.....perhaps some other day
Maybe lady luck will shine his way
Though not anytime soon
He's been waiting for her through many many moons
Sands of time constantly turn and shift
Leaving his emotions in a deep rift
Should he continue to wait around with dying hope?
Or leave with a disappointed heart never to cross that red velvet rope!

He'll still give her his passion, imagination, and soul
But as the years pass by they take a toll
His desire for her still soars the blue sky
Thoughts of her keep his spirits high
His deep love for her is a risky gamble, such a bet
Maybe she doesn't know he loves her, maybe she just forget
Countless times he showered her with care and support
Perhaps he was nothing more than a last resort

Other men are given her magic call
Shuffle right pass him as his heart takes a fall
The red velvet rope is so easily unlatched
Her face full of excitement of her new catch
Through the front door, they disappear
They stick around her pretending to care
She gazes in their eyes with that loving bliss
Shortly after they gave her that first magical kiss
They charm her with their tall tales and smile
Telling her the things she wants to hear for just a little while
Flattering her long enough to get what they all really want
Only to disappear shortly after leaving her with stories that haunt

Others pass him in line over the many years
She greets and welcomes them as more than just her peers
The velvet rope unlatches and they walk right in
Leaving him standing outside in the emotionally cold chilling wind
She pays no romantic attention to him
For he's the one that's just "the friend"
She believes that he'll stick around till the very end

Take him for granted that she will
He deserves the abuse for he fits the bill
Dedicating his time to help out with her chores
His hopes for a budding romance she completely ignores
He's so happy to be around her that the tasks are fun
He works nonstop until every last chore is done

Unknown to him she makes plans with the new guy
Her secret about him is just an omitted lie
He takes a moment to sit and think
The situation he's in is just a big stink
For the new guy who she's into with bliss
He should be the one here doing this
Let him prove his love by doing all these chores
The thought of being used by her raises his pores
The new lover is kept for fun and pleasure
The mere friend is nothing more than a lowly worker

Always an excuse of why it's never his turn
As he anxiously waits in line anticipating the burn
With a glimmer of hope he pretends to be OK
While his heart pulses out a message of dire mayday
The internal conflict forges on
emotions and logic; one is always in the wrong!
Captivated by her playful vibe and gentle eyes
He easily falls for all her other omitted lies

Maybe if he was this or maybe if he was that
Always the best excuse is given at the drop of a hat
Dedicated and trusting he remains assured
Just stand in line he thinks and wait a little more
Daily messages and lots of texts
Surely she must know that his devotion is much more than sex
Yet he continues to linger around
A naive sense of trust still abound

Leave her you stupid fool
If you stay you'll be just tossed deep in that emotional chaotic cesspool
Her attention is distracted and you're left to drown
As she focuses on the new guy that comes around
The story will still be the same you see
"I didn't advertise!! This new guy, he just came to me"
She whispers "keep continue clapping me on!"
"Don't look at our special lifelong friendship with that dreadful frown"

As he looks back at his life
He realized that she'll never be that ideal wife
Sticking around holding hands was surely insane
His romantic love for her is taken as a growing pain
She entertains his pleas for love with contempt and casual disdain
Over the years, her stoic view for him remains the same
She loves him like a bad cavity
But he's a fun person for an adventure activity

He continued loving her with devotion
Yet she only sees him as a friend with no romantic emotion
Remaining nonchalant to his love-struck needs
Her neglect and words poison them like bad weeds
He got caught up in her mental mind game
For him, the red velvet rope remains the same
Her romantic interest in him a mere token
No intention to even repair what she's broken
She flirts just enough for the fool to stick around
For she knows a few kind romantic words can keep him spellbound

Ever so soon twilight will befall
Only then might he get a call
Scooped up as leftover sloppy seconds
When no other guy around beckons
The fun times have all rolled past
They were given to others and now he's last

Too old and frail to have fun
Opportunities for exciting adventures are all dried up and done
Her past lovers have all moved on
Having memories some of which were made for porn
He gave all his chances up for her
Now he stands at the door as a faded blur
For him, the red velvet rope remains chained
Showing her true intentions in this lifelong game
She went out and enjoyed her life
While he sat and waited in strife
Too late now for the curtain has called
It's his own fault for diving in that pitfall

No chance ever comes back
He was warned about that "special" friend that brought on the heart attack
Better to have not invested all that time
Find new people to share the wine
The right one to take out to dine
Will be the one that ushers him to the front of the line

Move on and live a bit
Stay away from all the imaginary romantic grit
Time is limited and eventually gone
Beware of how soon daylight fades into dawn
For when the time has vanished and death do befall
He's the only one to blame for hanging on to that misdialed love call

She was just a friend you see
Only a friend was she to be
Treat a friend as a friend, and nothing more
Never cross that golden line that's for sure
She could never give him the romantic love that he seek
She doesn't have it in her to fall for that geek
Now that he's gone she'll always wonder
The consequences of her blunder
That she let the gem slip away
The one who knew how to cheer her up on any given rainy day

Absence makes the heart grow fonder
Forcing her to sit and really consider
Is she really happy riding the dating roller coaster
All the ups and downs with men that vanish in the end
No one really sticks around to be that friend
Everyone leaves after their heyday
Past lovers can't even recall her birthday
He should have also lost his false hope
For in reality, he was never going to cross that red velvet rope

Let's hope persistence pays better than the subject of your piece....... But repeat entry? Takes time to get noticed here (if that's what you're after)
Story of unrequited love and a great rhymer, which always sits well with me (the rhymer bit I mean).
I hope you stay around. And if you do, it would make others happy if you read and commented on their work, in addition to providing a variety of yours....

Thank you..I wrote this completely heart broken and it's based purely on emotions and I'll edit it as soon as I get more objectivity

Five repeats...clever or what? I gave you what i consider to be very useful advice.

Do not expect any further commentary from me.
