It's been a very rocky ride
We've been on this power bike
Taking in with smiles all the strikes
In our markets, the price hike
In our schools, the ASUU strike
On our soils, Terrorists' air strikes
Even the belly receives hunger strikes
"Naija" was once a name of pride
I recall I once called her my bride
Alas! It's now a name I hear and hide
The chaotic events on every side
Have made my smile to not be wide
"Naija" was a name that brought us smiles
Today it's a name we hear and sigh
We live now everyday, just to survive
With the sufferings, we still have to smile
"Naija" was once a name of joy
Alas! It's now a name that makes me coy
For her Legacies are almost destroyed
The qualified humans stay unemployed
Everyone now screams, "We no get joy!!"
Oh! Naija was once a great delight
Once a nation with a future bright
Alas! People today in their anger, fight
Chai!! If to say me self get Nepa light
This poem would've been more polite
Naija was once a substance of faith
Blessed with resources so sufficient
Sadly, we're still on others, dependent
Borrowing daily, accumulating debts
Oh! Tell me not we are independent
We can only try to live in the hope
That the sun shall rise again
We can only hope we can cope
With the little gain and plenty pain
We can only try to live in the hope
That Naija shall someday rise again
