Gracie’s Ghost

J.H.Byron-Nuel

All the sorrow and all of the pain

Confusion lives a life of it’s own.

Secret sounds from an empty room

Gracie’s ghost wanders on alone

Down the hall and up the stairs

Desperately crying out in loneliness

What she sees she just can’t understand

Gracie’s ghost wanders on alone

All the madness of her bourgeois life spent

Separation is the burden she now carries

Relent this life and move on from here

Gracie’s ghost wanders on alone

From this house, from this hell she will be spared

In the light released from the dark shroud of memories

A new life waits beyond these walls

Gracie’s ghost wanders on alone

Beyond the shadows of years gone by

Married to the disease misery adheres

life is pain heaven waits

Gracie’s ghost wanders on alone

Where she goes the path is hers and hers alone

Throw down the stone and be gone from here

Fly on gracious winds and find the way

Gracie’s ghost wanders on alone

Ghosts hold two juxtaposed images for me: the spirit that can not rest and is prisoner between life and heaven and the image of memories that haunt the living. A more panphysicism view would be another level of conscious existence. In any case this ghost remains.

Thank you so much for reading my poem. I wrote it many years ago. I based it on the natural things going on in my home at the time and the supernatural things that is fun to think about.
