THE LOVE OF MY LIFE

Mehak

I wish I could go back to when I was a child,

Back to 2016, a year so wickedly wild.

I'll whisper a silent secret in her little ear,

That she's going to fall in love within this year,

The kind of love that would consume her whole,

The kind that she wouldn't know how to control.

It'll make her laugh till her cheeks hurts,

And when she'll think it can't get worse,

It'll make her cry till the world go blurry,

But everything else will fade away, including all her worry.

Life without it would seem impossible,

And living in that hellish nightmare would be improbable,

It'll stay with her till she takes her last breath,

If there's an after it'll probably follow her in death.

She looks at me with wonder in her eyes,

Ask me, how can there be a person for whom she'll give up her french fries.

I laugh and tell her she won't have to,

As books don't ask for anything, they just give you,

Confusion befalls upon her little face,

And I tell her about the love of words, we'll embrace.

Then I bid her goodbye with the last say,

That no matter what falls apart in your life sweetie, books will always stay.
