A Better Woke

Lionel Mandrake

I woke up this morning

Worried, on the go

To places I know not

And no thoughts of blessings flowed

Like blue skies and white clouds

Animals at play

Bees making honey

Horses that neigh

Streams that ripple slowly

Trees that shade my soul

Slivers of rays that find me

So life won't take its toll

God is here and there

And everywhere I look

On the land, in the sea

In the fish in the brook

Now, when I awaken

Be still first, and ponder

Let these words echo softly

Of Gods blessings I shall not wander

  • Comment from author about the poem: With so many bad things in our world, I thought it would be a good idea to slow down and awaken with better thoughts. Gratitude. It works!

I was beginning to wonder as well! It was a curious thought to think what proportion of active poets are woke and how that played into their daily grind.

you can beat an egg and a carpet and a drum, but you just can't beat a bit of gratitude, can you ...... I am not yet woke, but hardly slept a wink last night and feel so bloomin drained ................ Neville 🙂

Yes. The human condition needs gratitude to start and end the day.
