Life Doesn\\\'t Care About You Sometimes

J.Edse

Life has a way of punching us

in the face when we least expect it

a sucker punch for the ages

a death, a breakup, a divorce, lay off

we ask life why

but get no reasonable or timely answer

just a dismissal

a deal with it on your own.

so we do.

You prepare all your meals for yourself

by yourself now

no one there to greet you when you come home

just an empty chair

congealed globs on toast have become your new staple

water has been replaced by alcohol

and the only friends in your life

are the roaches on the floor

who also run away from you when you need to talk.

At 7PM you retire into the living room

listening to records in the dark

the only circle of life from the turn table spinning red.

you feel something deep inside!

life may be coming for an answer after all!

it comes.

you roll onto your side to vomit

to avoid swallowing your own pride

getting a little on your shirt

but you don't have to be anywhere

you're fine.

Not everyone is.

the sirens from outside blare

you think, they're coming for you

maybe you're saved!

but they go right on past

life doesn't care about you anymore

its someone else's turn to get punched.

It feels that way way often in my life also.

It's a lonely feeling. You know a change should be made but there seems to be comfort wallowing in the familiar.
