Hallelujah Anyway

Elinor Gorton

Life was dull today:

   wind was cold,

      clouds were gray,

         sickness stalked,

            food was scarce,

               the washer balked.

I scaled no mountain high,

   but in the vale

      God was nigh--

         with crabby spouse,

            fevered babe,

               cluttered house.

No sense of Jesus came,

   but He was there

      just the same.

         He calmed my nerves

            made me smile,

               all the while.
