The Fire 1963

1wachendorf

It was the day after Christmas when our house burned down.
Mom was expecting number 12 and was working in town.

Dad gathered us to outside in the cold bitter snow.
It was a horrible loss, but lives were saved,  for we know.

The neighbor's gathered and brought  clothing and food.
We were grateful and blessed, our life would be good.

Dad lost his business in that horrible fire.
Dad and Mom, searched jobs and in hope to be hired.

They had me quit school at the age of 14,  4 little ones, I fed and had to keep clean. I did the laundry in our old ringer machine. Then hung on the line to dry by a gentle breeze.

Changing diapers, cooking and cleaning.
It made our home a whole new meaning.

I went back to school a year later,  I did learn a lot .
Life throws you curbs and be thankful for what you got.
