poppyfield

Noah Malice

it's a breeze
to be a poppy in the field

and if i had lungs i could breathe
so deeply and slow

and be one with the
graceful wind blow

but i lie here for rest forever
dancing with the whim of the weather

and there you are so poised
and tall

feet planted firmly like a tree
in fall

and a captivation comes over me so wholly
and commands every moment of me

to abandon my post
and rise from the field

to take up my sword
and leave behind my shield

and take one lumbering step
after another

until i walk
i run

i trip and lie
sweating in the sun

and crawl
for a minute

before rising again
and getting back in it

just to get to closer to you
to be with you a moment before i have to go back

back to the field
where i sit so still

and even in this dance
this beautiful chance

i am carried again
only by a different wind

lying in a separate sky
i never wanted a will

but back there my petals
were nearly turning blue

and if i had a heart
it would beat for you

To be that solitary poppy in the field or to be one among a countless numbers in a field of poppies. That makes some difference. Got me thinking there Noah.
