One Deadly Sin

One Deadly Sin

Scout Shaw

My God,

Heaven forbid I speak.

  Forgive me Father,

For I have sinned against you.

I, a lowly woman, had the audacity

To speak, speak out against a man, at that.

Alas, there I was, acting a fool,

 Having an opinion!

 Oh my! I’m so sorry,

 I repent against my sins,

 Forgive me Father, won’t you?

Show me some mercy, won’t you

 Father?

After all, I’m only a lowly woman, who

Just isn’t smart enough to grasp the

Concepts men can, isn’t that right?

 Oh please forgive me,

Forgive me for having an opinion,

 Forgive me for speaking up,

Forgive me for speaking on what’s wrong,

Forgive me for advocating for my rights,

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned!

Forgive me for being a woman!

 Amen.
